No imaginary passing lane? So if I'm locked in behind a tired leader and that horse drifts out in the stretch i have to still follow him instead of using the open lane to try to win??

Good point 8hole.I have driven horses too,and most tired horses run out in the stretch.Never driven on a mile track, but sometimes horses run out pretty bad on a half,I can imagine how bad it is on a big track

I don't really care what drivers show up to race, there's bigger problems with Harness racing

And the horse that roughed it on the outside gets beat by a suck along ?? Or the one that cut the mile gets beat by the suck along. If you want the “locked in horse to get a free shot to the wire just bet tracks with passing lanes.
If they raced the other way around would they still drift out ??

Sounds like Friday nights will have 5 amateur races.

How can you say you want to provide the best product, then card amateurs every week?

I find it fascinating when watching races at the Big M that when a driver lets a fellow driver go shortly after the 1/4 & they then stay in that position until the head of the lane it is almost always the case that the front horse will drift off the pylons. The interesting part is when you watch the head-on of the replay, the lead horse bears out a length or so off the rail (supposedly because the horse is tired) but then miraculously goes straight or even sometimes drifts back in for the rest of the stretch. My question is if the horse is so tired that it drifts out at the head of the lane, why does it stop drifting out & goes in a straight line once the fellow driver has advanced up the rail? You would think the further the horse goes through the lane the more tired the horse would be & the more (not less) it would drift as he advances through the lane. It almost seems like the horse on the lead at the head of the stretch is so exhausted it drifts but then catches his second wind & goes straight. Very strange?
