Here is a fact that should give a real perspective on Harness racings' relevance:
ECONOMIC INDICATORS ON U.S. Harness all harness race:

November 5, 2022: $6,063,00

Breeders Cup handle for a 2 day event:  189,060,373.

Much better off the track stories. Could make for great reality TV and make harness racing more popular than football. 73cv.2

The disparity between the runners & harness is insane. Harness racing is dead. It's sad what has happened to a sport many loved.

I love the sport, but I'm not oblivious to what's going on.  The writing is on the wall and has been for some time.  The crooks are putting the final nails in the coffin now.

It comes down to when the slot money goes somewhere else. Contracts will all end soon.

correct, its not horse racing that is dying, it is harness racing that is dying
tbreds still attract big crowds , even on average weekend cards
make no mistake there are many horrible tbreds tracks  that no one wants to go to
but unlike harness tbreds can ramp it up at the big tracks for the big events
their best tracks are spectacular and lets face it located in florida and california and a few other warm weather areas
harness has no such attractions
and by racing during the week and at nights who the hell is going to a harness track for 4 1/2 hours and getting home at midnight, harness has made itself into a bet from home game for most occassions
also lets be honest, a lot of harness races (especially those not raced on the 7/8 or mile tracks) are boring with low priced payouts

yonkers should be the first to try something, 10 horse fields raced at a 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 mile distances for overnight races to start

Choices killed harness racing. When harness racing was the only choice a person had to get some action at night, harness racing was quite popular.
It survived and grew in spit of corruption flat out fixing.
Today, there are far to many more exciting and faster ways to get you gambling fix. So, was harness racing ever a viable sport or just a vehicle for gambling?
