Tioga Downs opens in May
« on: March 27, 2023, 09:13:42 PM »
There is a lot to like about racing at Tioga and some new ideas are being incorporated into the meet, including a few Late Closers with attractive purses.

“Racing at Tioga Downs means summertime to me,” said Jason Settlemoir, Tioga’s Vice-President of Racing. “It’s got a full casino so it doesn't matter if our betting pools are small.  It's great for the few fans that come to have fun even though it's located in the middle of nowhere.  Hopefully the purse bump will attract some of the barns that really aren't competitive at the Meadowlands.”

Those sound like a lot of backhanded compliments from JS.  He is essentially thanking the losers who actually showed up to watch the loser barns who are racing there.  What a fucking idiot this guy is!  ngc3

Tioga used to be a fun place to attend the races. They had great cards on Sunday with good drivers as well. Not sure what happened. As reported Im from the Batavia, NY area and used to take the 2plus hour ride on some Sundays. Not anymore.

stalemate was a little loose with the (“…”) marks attributed to Settlemoir. That said, if you want to speak with his boss, Tioga’s a good place to start.

Here's the real press release....

Tioga Downs will kick off its 18th season of live racing on the customary opening date of Kentucky Derby Day, which falls on May 6 in 2023.

The live racing meet is scheduled for a total of 59 dates, racing Friday and Saturday evenings at 6:15 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 1 p.m.

Purses for the upcoming meet will rise approximately 10 percent this season over last, which translates to racing in overnights for a total of around $220,000 per weekend.

There is a lot to like about racing at Tioga and some new ideas are being incorporated into the meet, including a few Late Closers with attractive purses.

“Racing at Tioga Downs means summertime to me,” said Jason Settlemoir, Tioga’s Vice-President of Racing. “It’s a wonderful place to race and great for fans to have fun and enjoy all that goes on there. Hopefully the purse bump will attract a few new faces and make for competitive racing this season.”

You will find all pertinent info on the web or by calling the Racing Office at 607.699.7688.
