It was all unnecessary. I think the Senator meant well, and is trying narrow or eliminate the SCM/ Mike P./ Kay Kelly threads . But, the 5-2 odds on SCM turning on him was a safe bet. SCM did just that.
\There are only two winning outs for Senator. First is to ease up on the boring cheap heat, take some well earned punches and carry on. Second is to just disappear. Personally, I hope he does neither and we get to see Shopping Cart Mike continue to pummel our boy.
