Settlemoir complains about the low on track turnout
« on: August 20, 2023, 01:39:51 PM »
"I was very, very happy with our strong off track on Hambletonian Day and I was very, very happy with our strong on track as well,” Settlemoir said. “We got back to almost a million dollars on track. And getting back to close to a million dollars on track is something that’s very exciting for me because it means that there is a will for people to want to return to the racetrack, especially on big event days. But it bothers me that on a Friday we struggle on track and quite frankly on a Saturday we struggle on track, too.”

Jason, I don't think tossing fake horses into a car is going to cut it.

Spend some $$$$ and get some decent live bands into the apron and sells beer at a reasonable price and you will get some new folks to watch the product and spend a few bucks gambling.

Come on man, you think the horse toss brings folks in?

SIMPLE SOLUTION: Create a product that provides entertainment with good food, and a racing product worth the venue. You can't merely rely on horse people to flip the bill. Most simple won't do it. You are just outside one of the biggest demographics in the country, and your unable to pull a crowd.  This speaks to the cheapened approach by management.  Spend money offer the crowd you want something more than racing.  Its to only route to success at this late point in the game.

follow the upper class t bred tracks
its the place to be for those between 30-45
they treat it as a night/day out  and spend accordingly
actually the roof top at the big m is very nice, but do more

Jason the answer to your problem is have all 12 races with amateur drivers. That should bring  fans back.

Love the buffets at Pink and the rooftop is interesting, but I usually observe a nightclub like clientele up there filled with young people who arent even aware there is a racetrack down below

No mention of the on track attendance numbers. The fact that he says the on track handle didn't make it to $1million tells me that the on track attendance for Hambletonian Day didn't get anywhere near 9000, on the biggest day of the year. And they're still worried about losing their casino subsidy next year.

Unless the track estimates attendance by the number of programs sold, I have no idea how they would calculate the attendance. They have a pretty big crowd that hangs out at their Fan Duel rooms. Do they bet the horses I have no idea. Then on Hambo Day they have tons of families just coming for all the food trucks and activities for the kids. All I know is I saw a lot of empty seats in the outdoor grandstand.

No interest from even the horse owners, They built a beautiful room for the owners upstairs BUT with an overpriced and terrible buffet. Went there 4 Fridays ago. I was one of 6 in the room. It holds about 100 or more. What does that tell you? Maybe change the menu? Lower the price? Make it more appealing to more? NOPE> NOTHING>NATTA

I am an old timer and can remember the days back in the old grandstand when they were packed to the gills, all 3 floors, standing room only.
I am old enough to remember, YR, RR, and Monti being packed like that too.
