Yonkers handle can be all over the place. Last night they a $20,000 handle in one early race and a $87,000 handle in a later race. That later race included a $48,000 Pick 5 pool which means this money actually bet from the 5th race. Monday night they had a low of $25,000 to a high of $67,000. There isn’t a lot of consistency at YR.
Rave 1 24k total. Daily double 3k. .lol. double at sarotoga was 100k plus
What we have is the result of a decreased horse population. Gural warned about this 10 years ago. How many good horses can you import from down under. At yonkers , I have seen races with 6 of 8 from southern hemisphere and now Ireland, too. This does not seem to be a problem in Ohio. They breed about 3 times more than NY and NJ combined.
Drivers and horses would find a home to the extent deserving. Just a disgraceful use of government subsidies to keep this track going. Better off giving the $ back to taxpayers.Certain ly be beneficial to reduce outrageous purses and move more money to breeding/sire stakes. Plus, if you noticed, some of the more notorious horse abusing barns were situated in yonkers. Not many trainers still there deserving of plaudits. Presents a bad optic for horse racing. Plus 1/2 mile tracks useless.
