Yes I actually do which is weird because I still can't remember Leo Bauer but I remember that horse.  Better with horses names than people I guess.

How do you even remember Mr. Sandman?  You had to be real young then.
I was Prolly like 13 because i think he raced 75/76, right?   I clearly remember Big Towner   This when my family starting owning horses in Jaques Dupuis stable.  We owned a horse with Jacques called Homestretch Eve. Ring any bells? Do you remember JM Jupiter?  Command Decision?  As I said in earlier threads by the time I was 13 all i thought about was harness racing. Well almost all. winkwink

Yes I remember all those horses as it was my prime time for learning everything about racing and handicapping. I used to go and watch Governor Skipper and Big Towner when they were in the area all the time.  One of my favorite old memories for in person was watching Nickawampus Leroy do his 3 wide sweep the field move to win several times.  Breathtaking on a half mile track.

I'll play.   These are the ones I liked to bet on the most and some of their horses I loved and had scores with or memories of.  All old timers except for my all time favorite ... for obvious reasons if you knew her.

Riina Rekila ... E.L. Titan beating Father Patrick at Hoosier and many other longshot winners

John Chapman ... Governor Skipper and Mr. Sandman who I saw blast out of the gate one time from post 8 and crossed over within about five steps.

Billy Haughton .. Keystone Smartie, Handle With Care, etc etc etc

Del Miller ... Meadow Bright, Tarport Hap and met him at a Ho Jos once in the 70s

Bill Popfinger ... Shirley's Beau and others at prices

Honorable mention

Campbell ... Produced my best overall betting win with longshot Armbro Dazzler in the Sweetheart in the early 80s

I'm sorry but John Chapman should be eliminated for the most horrendous drive in the history of harness racing on BIG TOWNER in the Monticello OTB classic -- and he won the race.

Was Big Towner trained by Lee Broglio? Remember Nickawampus Don? Momentous with Bobby Rahner?

Now to prove how into it I was at an early age I will dig deep and pull out a name from obscurity - a trainer, I think he was Black - Marion "Dolber" Tolson

It's not a best driver ever contest, and sorry I'm not giving back the money I won betting on him fifty years ago  ngc3

Lee Broglio .. Yes
Nickawampus Don .. I don't remember
Momentous .. I think you mean the Fulla Napoleon colt Momentum from that time.

and I vaguely remember a black trainer or driver with that name but as I said before I'm better with horses.

Ron Marsh - Won many races for me.
James MacDonald - Transformed into a superstar when he went south during COVID.
Bob Farrington - The Red Man was the king of Chicago when I was an impressionable newbie.
Joe Anderson - Came to Chicago and absolutely kicked ass catch driving even before he got all those big name horses to train.
John Campbell - Simply the best.

Honorable mention: Timmy Tetrick, Doug McNair, Ken VanderSchaff (sp?), Bobby Burnett

Sanibel Island and Miss Easy still remain the greatest pacing mares I have ever seen.
