It sad what has happened in Florida! The people of New Jersey who criticize Jeff Gural should take note on how he saved harness racing in New Jersey unless they’re satisfied racing for peanuts at freehold..The New Jersey base trainer’s should take turns kissing that Jew’s ass for what he has done for them! And what the hell does Gural’s religion have anything to do with any of this thread? There shouldn’t be any reason that someone’s religion, color or creed be included on Plop.
What a hole Pompano Park created when it closed for good two seasons ago. So many trainers and drivers have fell off the harness racing planet. With nowhere to race in Florida during the winter months do they revert to only training young horses in Florida at local training facilities? I am guessing horsepeople such as Andy Santeramo, Joe Sanzari, Bryce Fenn, Mickey McNichol have just quit or are doing other things. I am sure others have left the industry too or just rest their horses until the early spring.
Please elaborate Larry

Let’s assume Larry is correct and there was rampant cheating at Pompano. As a long time on track fan of Pompano I can’t recall any drug positives of consequence there. Was it because the management was too cheap to aggressively test? Was management overly concerned how it would look if they publicized cheating? I have no idea and will add I do not recall many fines of any kind for bad driving. I do recall a few suspensions of top guys for failing breathalyzer tests but that too wasn’t publicized. I had to ask the track photographers why a driver was missing and they usually knew. Any thoughts?
I asked the USTA why they virtually never had fines and suspensions in their weekly report, and was told pompano didn’t send them anything. It seemed any time someone was caught doing something illegal, they were just told to leave. Also, it seemed there never was a black box test.
Harness racing has allowed itself to be run down and deserves nothing. I hope other states pull their subsidy plugs very soon.
