Harness racing can not survive without government subsidies or casino dollars. Just look at the awful handles at many of these tracks. Want to kill something here without a gun? Eliminate all the support and harness racing will be gone in less than six months.

Let’s hope that happens. I would love to see what some of these people will do to earn a living. Just let them race for whatever handle they generate. Harness racing is no longer needed.
Johnny Johnson fucked up Chicago harness racing. I hope you die !!!!

Florida, like Pennsylvania had the reputation for being the easiest place to get your license back and get a third or fourth or fifth chance....That's why people like Danny Ricco, Andy Santeramo, Richard Wojcio, Stevie Oliwa, Matt Romano and other Rogues Gallery members would be racing there and nowhere else.

Which is exactly why I said every cheater and scumbag went to winter in Florida. I hope they continue to aggressively shut down these harness tracks one by one. It’s impossible to catch the cheaters no matter how hard anyone tries. Even the olympians find a way around testing only to be caught later on and claim they didn’t know the Gatorade had some ingredient in it. Lmfao

I guess Larry doesn’t know how expensive hay and feed were compared to other parts of the country as well as the expense of shipping back and forth. The purses were ok (nothing to brag about) and as an owner if you broke even racing there, you were a happy camper!!  At least Gabe did his job and tried to get more handle!  Even with ‘bigger handles’ you weren’t going to make your fortunes at the betting windows!

Some people seem to forget that the casinos could only partner with the existing racetrack in order to operate.  Unfortunately, the Pompano horsemen did not make a solid deal- both in % of casino handle and for length of duration of the deal.

I asked the USTA why they virtually never had fines and suspensions in their weekly report, and was told pompano didn’t send them anything.  It seemed any time someone was caught doing something illegal, they were just told to leave.  Also, it seemed there never was a black box test.
I was there in the 80's, a few matters were cleared up by envelope across the street at the Banana Boat.

I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SAYING BUT POMPANO RACING LONG HAD A REPUTATION OF WHERE THE CHEMIST WOULD FLOCK TO GET THE DRUG SUPPLIES AND RACE A FEW OF THEIR HORSES AND THEN HEAD BACK EAST OR TO CANADA IN THE SPRING FULLY LOADED WITH THE LASTEST EXOTIC DRUGS TO TAKE DOWN ALL OF THE PURSE MONEY AT THE TRACK OF THEIR CHOICE. NOTHING GOOD CAME OUT OF FLORIDA HARNESS RACING EXPECT CHEATERS AND DRUGGIST WHO LEARNED HOW TO PRE-RACE AND HOW MUCH TO GIVE 3 DAYS OUT. THE PRICE OF HAY AND FEED WAS ALWAYS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME WHEREVER YOU GO. JOE RICCI WAS THE ONLY HOPE POMPANO EVER HAD AND, IN MY OPINION, GABE WAS HORRIBLE AND ONE OF THE MAJOR REASONS FOR POMPANO TO GET LEVELLED. ITS CALLED KARMA. WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND!! ONLT DIFFERENCE IS NOW THE CHEATERS HAVE TO PRERACE AND FREEZE THEIR ASSES OFF AND HAVE TO BE A LITTLE MORE CAREFUL BECAUSE THAT TUBE DOESNT BEND AS EASILY IN THE COLD WEATHER.

Gabe Prewitt was horrible and the reason PPK died? Are you kidding or what. In the last 10 years he was the best thing that happened there, not even close. He promoted the heck out of the track. He single handily increased the PPk handle by a lot. The ancient mariner John Berry and Gabe formed a tremendous bond with their pre-program analysis. Plus they were very entertaining. Gabe was always inviting people like me to the top of the track to watch him call the races. What a view plus a chance to have some honest conversations about the races. If either Gabe or John had some time they would talk to all the fans on the apron of the track, or in John’s case the betting windows 😀. It wasn’t the facility that made the track a great place to visit. It was the people that began with Gabe Prewitt who used to say,”It’s another romp at the Pomp”. And we members of the “SenditIn Army” loved it all and miss it very much. If Gabe or John check in let me once again say hi from Ted in Boynton Beach.

ALL GABE DID DURING HIS TIME THERE WAS TOOT HIS OWN HORN AND WANTED THE PAT ON THE BACK. SORRY BUT I WOULD ALWAYS MUTE MY TV BECAUSE THE GUY IS SUCH AN ANNOYING CRYBABY. HE IS THE REASON WHY THE YOUNGER GENERATION HERE IN SOUTH FLORIDA HATED BETTING ON THE RACES AND WOULD RATHER LOSE THERE MONEY IN THE CASINO. HE ONLY PROMOTED POMPANO WHEN HE COULD GET HIS NAME PROMOTED ALONGSIDE OF IT. HE COULDNT WAIT EVERY NIGHT TO KISS WALLYS ASS. INGRAHAM AND DETERS USED TO LAUGH AT THE SUCK UP.

Gabe was always nice to us when we raced at pompano. He isnt the greatest announcer like mike Chamberlain but he wasn't bad either.
I am Rick's adopted second wife. No disrespect to MaryAnn, but we both love Rick. From coast to coast, not a better driver or trainer alive then Rich Plano!!!

This is one of the delusional posts I have ever seen on Plop. Gabe never tooted his own horn. In fact most of the time he would laugh at himself because of all the losers he picked. Gabe is the reason young people in South Florida didn’t bet harness? This is such nonsense I wouldn’t even know where to begin. How about the younger generation hated Gabe because his personal takeout was so high if you said hello to him? Give me a break. People just X out any negative nonsense about Gabe Prewitt.
