I am a bit confused. Didn't you tell me in previous posts you had horses with Frank. we talked about his skill at setting up his horses and how well he did for years gambling his own money with his own bar? I am sure it was you. Sorry if I am wrong

I used Frank to drive after I met him at The John Peel Room at the Island Inn. I used my cousin and various others to train. Frank was very good at getting the money. and he also was a good gambler. I am surprised that the Moonstone Bay Affair hasn't been brought up. Well, maybe some here aren't as smart as they think. In answer to your question, no Frank never trained for me but then again, my cousin and Frank Benedetti who groomed for Frank, couldn't drive a nail into a snowbank. An interesting story is once Frank or Billy put Benetti up to drive a horse named Queens's Mohigan. Evidently the instructions were to keep the horse on the front end. Fred somehow got caught outside from the one hole and raced there the entire mile, won the race hung the entire mile, paid box cars, and of course, nobody was down.

O'brien was amazing. Did you know his stepson Stan?

Only to say hi too. I believe he was yellow/white as was O'Brien. Not a lot of people liked Joe. He was quite stern and arrogant. He had his employees call him Mr. O'brien I was told but I raced Hollywood for two years and he was tough on the racetrack. He also time-trialed Steady Star at Lex to a 1:52 world record using prompters. My opinion was that Stan was quite mediocre and could win with the best horse.

So Kooter what is your point? I haven’t read anything new here that hasn’t been said hundreds of times. That being said congrats making it to 78 years old and for getting out of our business before it became what it is today.

Thanks for what I consider a compliment. I just hope I can make it to 80. Its said that when your time is up, your life passes before you. Maybe that is happening to me? At any rate, these are things I remember and if they are boring, I beg forgiveness.

Actually good to hear and learn this information.  It may be the few shreds that keep the business interesting.

Wrong. Simone's father was not in the mob. Mike's sister was married to Tommy Ricciardi.

Tommy Ricciardi owned the farm in Lakewood. FBI found 14 or so dead bodies buried there.

I remember when I first got my NYRWB license, there's that question on the application asking whether you associate with any organized crime figures. Musta been hard for Lou Gigante, Mike Gagliardi, Mike Sorrentino, Joe Guarino et al. to answer, huh?

To be fair, it was hard for me to answer "no" also.  ;D

I found that you never knew the real guys that were in the life. They kept it very hush hush. The ones that would shoot their mouth off about it were wannabees that eventually ended up in a dumpster somewhere.
