Was Phil training him when he won Opens, A levy and races at the Big M? My crazy memories tell me Luca Derrico had him for a stretch

I remember being a kid in 1979 at RR in the fall and he beat a stellar field including Nickylou and Wizrad Almahurst and Rambling Willie with John Campbell who was leading driver that year for the fall meet at RR   Thrills and chills for me   It was an open pace

What 3 year old trotter was in a claimer with a tag of $52,500 just 27 days before winning the Hambo?

whew, I can hold off on the memory pills a bit longer, TY   I liked Phil Tafone. He had other successes, of course.

Correct. There was a rumor back then that Dave Rovine put a claim in on him but the claim ended up being voided because one of the owners wasn't licensed. Less than a month later, he wins the Hambo for Skip and Benny.

That was him. He wasn't the friendliest guy around, that is for sure.

Being 22 years old at the time, I also remember he had a series of adorable, Swedish looking, blonde grooms, each of which had bigger tits than the next one

Didn't know much of his personality, but he did seem to "swagger"   Seems like yesterday

To all contestants, it was Fight The Foe   His last claiming line was in a 10 at Liberty Bell. Rose to crush a star studded Levy field of 11 horses at RR with Merit Dokey in 1982 among other triumphs. And yes he was in even cheaper claimers too.  Thanks to all who played.
I'm looking for other things and came across this just now.  It's the Levy race Fugs is talking about.

Oh.. this one is later   I was referring to his Levy win with JC when he came for the fall meet and won like 75 races It was 79  but I appreciate seeing this one too.   FTF stayed at a high level for years   remarkable   Went with my parents and grandparents  Nathans afterwards   a great night for a 16 year old suffering with harness fever.
