In the 90's, i raced four cheap claimers. We were as honest as can be. We lost money every year we raced.....
You should of partnered up with odds on or bottom line or any of the other cheating cocksuckimg hillbillies in Florida.  They get the best drugs money can buy

I guess you don’t get what this business is. It’s the ‘little people’ who keep this business afloat. The majority know that they are going to lose money. I convinced my gf at the time to go into our 1st horse at Pompano Park in 2004. She was told upfront that we were going to lose money before we did this. She jumped into this and enjoyed her involvement and we learned on the fly together.  We had a good trainer that we learned the business from. It was one of the best experiences we had together and I am still involved with a different trainer who let me enjoy this today.
It’s not the profit/loss, but the time you have in the business (the good and the bad) and the friends you make too.

I enjoyed the business but we did lose money. Between vet bills and training costs, our four cheap claimers couldn't generate enough in winnings to get close to breaking even. I too, had a honest trainer who did most of the work himself. We made many friends and enjoyed hanging around the barn early in the morning.

Now Larry knows from at least 2 different people in the business. You know the answer to my 1st trainer.  Please don’t spill the answer.

I think that despite losing some money, it was fun being involved. Instead of the four cheap claimers, i should have invested in only two more expensive claimers. My expenses would have been cut in half, and maybe i would have had better luck with better stock. Cheap claimers grind you out. I learned that and would only partner with a better horse ot two now.

I’m glad that you and your gf liked the business and were happy to lose money. But I do believe the losing money would better served helping the homeless or maybe a different,  more charitable cause. I don’t understand how you could make good friends in the business and having to look the cheating Florida horsemen in the eyes Every morning while they are stealing your money and robbing you blind. Pompano was long known for drugging chemist and cheaters. Hope they don’t still have you social security number or any old credit card you might of had because they’ll steal your identity.

Dingus, my buddy has a couple of horses with the "Rifleman" and has made a few bucks. He's an honest trainer and places his horses where they can be competitive. I think he has "roots" here in Maine, but races mainly at Saratoga, Plainridge, and occassionally at Yonkers. My trainer who ran a small 8-10 horse stable at Pompano did most of hie own "rubbing". To save the owners some money, he allowed certain owners to paddock their own horses. No me though. LOL!

Many people lose (waste) much of their money on things like sex, drugs, and alcohol, etc.  You still don't understand that most things in life have a Profit/loss attached to them.  This isn't the most important issue when you own horses (believe it or not). The money lost wasn't the issue.  You make new friends and have fun.  That is what life is for!  The business was a great learning experience and I enjoyed what my horses accomplished on the racetrack whether at Pompano (RIP) or elsewhere!  My PPK experiences were priceless!

I'm glad you're not my accountant. I am very small potatoes in this business.  Why don't you bust some other owners in this business who have so much more money involved than I do!

Thank you very much about being concerned with my money.  FYI, I am just doing fine in doing it myself!

rainman 2, i am like you in that repect. I was told pretty early in the "game", that most lose money on the "trotters". The "pacers" too! LOL! But i enjoyed the excitement of heading off to the barn early to watch them train. Pompano held their "qualifiers" at 10am, and i was thrilled to sit and talk with some legends in the sport. I even had a coffee with George Steinbrenner one morning as we watched one of his horses work for the Breeders Crown that year at Pompano. A funny guy! LOL! I'd get back in the game, but Maine racing is in dire straits these days.

And you could actually chat with the drivers that drove your horses and perhaps get a chance to meet with and chat with the famous drivers of the times and perhaps future hall of famers too!

I also invested in a lot of bowling balls in my lifetime and was fortunate enough to have bowled in PBA50 {professional bowlers association 50+} tournaments over the years.  $ 500 to bowl each tournament + travel, eating, and hotels.  I knew going in that it was going to be a losing financial proposition but did it anyway.  I actually cashed 1 tournament [tied for 38th with PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke and beat Pete Weber too]!  Again, 1 of many "priceless" experiences with a negative profit/loss attached to it!  Larry just doesn't understand the meaning of life!

rainman 2, i met so many big drivers. I enjoyed chatting with the Popfingers who had a lot of babies stabled in South Florida. I also enjoyed some local guys like Joe Pavia, Jr., Charlie Giamanco, and Andy Santeramo. I think Charlie and Andy are out of racing, but i still follow Pavia's horses. A lot of fun. I used to go to Del Preste Italian market in Margate in 441 and bring fresh mozzerella cheese to the barn for lunch. LOL!

If I was at Pompano I would of been your friend too as long as you let me rob you blind. Heck I’m sure all of the Florida horseman loved you. Sounds like a world of fun to befriend lowlife scumbag horse killers and cheaters. Even more fun to have coffee with them while they steal and con you. Can’t wait to do it myself. I’m so excited.

rainman 2, i guess you used to bowl at those lanes on University/Southgate in Tamarac. I forgot the name of those lanes. Had good burgers and pool tables. Did you ever head out to the Greenbriar for a bite after the races. The place was packed with horsefolk. I remember the days when Pompano drew big crowds on Friday and Saturday nights. Long before the casinos were even a thought in anyone's minds. LOL!
