rainman 2, i guess you used to bowl at those lanes on University/Southgate in Tamarac. I forgot the name of those lanes. Had good burgers and pool tables. Did you ever head out to the Greenbriar for a bite after the races. The place was packed with horsefolk. I remember the days when Pompano drew big crowds on Friday and Saturday nights. Long before the casinos were even a thought in anyone's minds. LOL!
rainman 2, i was down there in 85 too, bit didn't get involved with owning horses until the early 90's. A lifetime ago.
With all the "designer" drugs coming thru the Port of Miami and M.I.A. and a good connection at the Thoroughbred venues they have the ability to be the only one in the game with something fresh off the boat! No go =NO DOUGH!
rainman 2, i am like you in that repect. I was told pretty early in the "game", that most lose money on the "trotters". The "pacers" too! LOL! But i enjoyed the excitement of heading off to the barn early to watch them train. Pompano held their "qualifiers" at 10am, and i was thrilled to sit and talk with some legends in the sport. I even had a coffee with George Steinbrenner one morning as we watched one of his horses work for the Breeders Crown that year at Pompano. A funny guy! LOL! I'd get back in the game, but Maine racing is in dire straits these days.
