ON PREFERRED EQUINE'S AUCTION SITE THEY SHOW THE BIDS AND THE PERSON THAT BID IT. EACH BIDDER GETS A LETTER AND NUMBER CODE WHICH THEY ARE ASSIGNED. EVEVY BID IS THERE TO SEE. THIS WOULD HELP OUT IN A BIG WAY ON ONGAIT.

You often see the owner or trainer as the winner of the auction without seeing the results as reserve not met. That would be a strong indicator of the owner or trainer driving the price up and getting left as the final bidder.
It happens at many auctions but, it still sucks if you are the underbidder in a no reserve auction.

It's nice at a live auction when you can see the current owners bidding.  To me it means the horse has value and they aren't letting him go cheap.  If they don't bid, throws up a lot of red flags.  Never knowing who is bidding online and not getting to examine the horse is very risky.  Not sure how these guys spend 6-figures online like that.

If you think you know who is bidding at an auction you are mistaken.  Why do you think an agent or consignor stands next to auctioneer at the Harrisburg sale ?? It could be as little as the way they hold their catalog or hold a pen….
In a real auction the consignor has one bid !!    That is why there is a disclaimer that allows the consignor to bid as many times as they want.   It might also be the reason they call them sales and not auctions.  Buyer beware!!!

Do you know the man personally to know he is a dirtbag? Many people at sales run up horses. Are they dirtbags also? I usually agree with you on most of your posts though i do not on this one.

I DO KNOW THE GUY PERSONALLY. HE WOULD RUN THE BID AGAINST HIS OWN MOTHER. WHATS YOUR POINT WEEDS?

This must be amatuer night at the Apollo, LOL. I don't care if it's PEM, OnGait, Harrisburg or what -- it is buyer beware. Period. If you think any auction is "truly an efficient" market, then you are either naive, foolish, uneducated or I don't know what. Let's face it, you can say all you want about Eric Cherry, he is an advocate and ambassador for the sport and/or business, he's a top breeder, major owner, whatever you want. That doesn't make him a Saint. David Brooks was a major owner. So was IEAH (thoroughbreds). OnGait is not an nonprofit.

I bought a horse from OnGait. I like the horse, I contacted the trainer (who was the listed contact), spoke to him, watched videos, and then had the horse checked out (I had another trainer go a mile with him and had a vet check him out). All good. So I came up with my number. Period. Got him for less. It served my need. Nothing more. That's the only way I would buy from there or any auction. I see plenty of top horses up for sale. Every one of them sells for more than I think they are worth, and it ain't because I am lowballing the value. It's because of an inefficient market and games.

Good story but you left out the climax -- After all that money spent and research -- How'd you do with him?

I wouldn't buy a pair of shoes, sight unseen, off of the computer, let alone a race horse.

Wasn't a case of "all that money" (LOL). My number was $20k, and I got the horse for $17k -- and I did just fine.

I've dealt with Chodash in the past. He is a scumbag to the highest degree.
I ALSO KNOW THAT MAURICE IS A PIECE OF SHIT SCUMBAG WHO STEALS MONEY. HEARD THERE IS ANOTHER ON LINE AUCTION SITE COMING. I HOPE ITS TRUE TO PUT THE COCKSUCK OUT OF BUSINESS.  CHEATING SCUMBAG LIKE THE REST OF THE FILTH IN HARNESS RACING. THE LIVE AUCTIONS ARE ALL RIGGED TOO. ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THEY PUT A SHILL IN THE AUDIENCE WHO KEEPS RUNNING THE BID UP SO YOU GET THE SAME FUCKING ANY WAY YOU GO. I LIKE THE ON LINE AUCTIONS BUT YOU JUST GOTTA BE CAREFUL AS WITH ANYTHING IN THE SCUMMY SPORT OF HARNESS RACING.
