Explosive Matter euthanized in Finland
« on: March 11, 2024, 09:27:48 AM »
The 18-year-old stallion Explosive Matter, known for being the sire of Hambletonian winner Pinkman, has been euthanized in Finland due to his aggressive behavior.

Never mind gelding him and seeing if he would live the rest of his life in peace.

I think a person should know a great deal more about the circumstances before passing judgement. For us, gelding saved a vicious horse but we were repeatedly warned by a competent vet that the ingrained bad habits might be slow to change or may not change at all.

The Vet is right. Generally a stallion this old and having been a career revenue earning breeding stallion, isn't cured by gelding him. If he becomes that dangerous to work around and safety becomes a primary issue, I'm sure the decision wasn't made lightly.

Why? Because you don't know that gelding him at 18 is useless? I'll say it this way, he made people A LOT of money and now his usefulness has dried up. This is the norm for harness racing. If it happened here I'm sure he may have ended up in a compost pile in New Hampton. Business as usual. But if he was rogue his only chance was a field by himself.

Hey ploptwat? What do you do for a living? Does it involve "earning" a paycheck off the welfare subsidized industry called harness racing? Am I supposed to do others bidding for free? Do you? Make sure you post the proof too.

It's obvious you don't help unless there's something in it for you. It's also obvious there's Lots of alternative motives for you.

I call BS on this. What was in it for Mike to save the 7 horses in NJ? He made arrangements got the horses moved to a safe clean location where they'd be cared for and he's been taking a lot of shit for it since.  He's right, why do anything to help save the integrity of the horses, which seems to be your point.  Clearly nothing would have been done about if he didn't take the lead.  All the BS that followed suit afterward is a bunch of busy bodies Yarock included that got they're toes stepped on and had no further defense. Fuck Dave Yarock the guy should hange up ALL OF HIS LICENSES including his series 7

  • Papillon: o agree with MTP1972-much more CAW action in the carryovers-not sure how much more than standard-the carryover is a mirage

  • MTP1972: I have a different take on carryovers. If you're betting a track who has a good handle like Mohawk the Early Pick 5 pool is around $100,000, maybe $50,000 for the Pick 4 pool. When there's a carryover the CAW's bet thousands into the pool and have every combination covered multiple times. In a smaller pool there's a better chance for a big score because less of their money is in there, same for the Pick 6 in California.

  • Trigger: Thanks Calhoun, GL to you too, big scores ahead!  Check out Mohawk last Sat early p5, $67891.89 .20 payout w/ 3 horses < 3-1 odds, the other 2 races, nw1 and claimers, wow, the perfect storm.

  • Calhoun: Trigger, $25k/$500per week. Sounds great. IMO, you have 2 best options. 1) 100% of play on certain CarryOvers.  Pick-5 Carryovers are best. Pro is Near EV or +EV. Con is it's a ton of work in 1 day at worst or 3/4 days at best. But $500 gets you a lot of coverage. ..2) Focus 100% on one track, WITHOUT a lot of ship Ins. Woodbine, Remington, SoCal and Texas fit. WDB and Rem closed/closing. Whichever you choose, you need to know every single horse. You MUST have access to workout videos. You need to learn trainers. Good Luck
