Ray baynes suspension
« on: June 28, 2024, 10:11:20 AM »
I like to watch races when I see people get fined. Go to Harrah’s Philadelphia replays and watch race. This small time driver-trainer got 5,000 fine for lack of effort he’s driving a trotter out of 8 hole trying to hold him so he don’t jump gets nipped at wire   He did nothing wrong to get this steep fine. Whomever the judges are who gave fine should be fined like a bad baseball umpire calling balls and strikes.  Where’s the fines on top drivers stiffing horses   5,000 rediculous. Fight it Ray baynes. You did nothing wrong.  Fire all the judges who imposed this fine !

I met Ray Baynes in 1978. He came to the USA to sell his uncles mare, Lara's Smile. I think it might be Ray's last profitable year. Very nice man but little talent as a driver. Ray is not the problem in harness racing. Then again, you can't stiff and think it is ok. I don't know if he was stiffing or steading this trotter. He is a 5 year old and 0 for 19 lifetime.
Ray's barn has 67 starts this year and zero wins, 15 seconds and 10 thirds.

Karma?

Mr. Baynes took exception to the judges ruling against him when he lodged a claim of foul against my horse in a race at Freehold around 1995 alleging interference.  Inquiry.  Ruled no violation.  Race was made official and we were declared the winner.

Fucker filed suit and held up our purse money for months.  The court decided against him and we finally got paid.  Talk about a sore loser!  ;D

Baynes is lucky ex-fellow Freehold Driver Jimmy Marshall is now the Presiding Judge there. 6 months and just $5k after that was getting off easy. He will appeal. it will be 1-2 years before they get to a point where they reduce it and Baynes accepts it.

I agree with Cleanupindustry.   If he really wanted to "stiff" the horse he would not have gone for position out of the gate and then moved him coming around the last turn; a trainer doesn't have to "stiff" his own horse in a drive.  He can just lighten up on the training during the week leading up to the race etc.  OR he could have just kept him in 3rd or passed the dying second horse and not put him under a drive, only to try and shut him down.  He is "old" for a driver and I agree that he was trying to hold this cheapo together and not stiffing him.  However, if you had $2 on him, he stiffed the horse ;>>)

I don't know . The cost of an appeal is not very appealing. Ray has been doing his own thing for 50 years. Maybe he just might take another approach.

Not sure if he stiffed the horse or just sucks.  Didn't look like he gave much effort to urge the horse on to win.

This horse has 19 starts and finished 2nd or 3rd in 17 starts.

Think the stewards said enough is enough…. Makes sense to me

That’s definitely rubbing it in their faces.  Get rid of him and a bunch of others!

Judges are quick to make an example of a guy who drives less than 100 times a year but when Andrew McCarthy is blatantly stiffing prohibitive faves nothin to see here.
