I'm not saying whether Karl can or can't get around a half but who the fuck cares. He is being managed to return as much cash on the owner's investment. Does anyone know how hard it is to buy a yearling and develop it into a potential Hambo winner. I can tell you the odds are stacked against you and yet people are bashing Karl and Takter(s) who are probably 4-5 to win it Saturday. Will they win? I think they will but it's a horse race and a trotting one at that and anything can happen. There is a lot to criticize about harness racing but to bash Karl or the Takters is ridiculous.

Managing the horses this way is only killing the long term future of the sport.

And that is exactly why harness racing is dying. Race a few big races than off to a farm never to be seen again. That is no way to build a fan base.

There is no fan base. There are no fans. Harness racing isn't major league baseball. Harness racing is a gambling game. It is dying cause wagering has been ignored while trying to cater to "fans"

The reality is exactly the opposite. Trying to expand wagering in the face of ever expanding gambling options is a losing strategy. People can pick up their phone, tablet, laptop, or other device or go to a nearby casino and place bets with the outcome in seconds or minutes and they can do this 24/7/365.The can place bets on the next play or the next at bat. As long as harness racing think like the thinking you presented, harness racing will continue to decline until it disappears. What do you think will happen when the government welfare ends? Will the industry survive on purses paid 100% by handle? What happens if decoupling becomes a reality?

Racing has marketed itself to fans for decades.
Transvestite dance shows
Corn eating contests
Weiner dog races
Camels
Ostriches.
Fancy drinks
Hat contests

How has all this worked out? Handle has plummeted.
Racing is completely overmispriced in the gambling landscape. There is no possible way to make racing succeed or even stay put without fixing the wagering part.
It is not a spectator sport.

Only racing at three. Only racing on a half. He will be forgotten.
I think they said that about Muscle Hill too.

Trying to see racing as a gambling product in the face of an every expanding number of gambling products is a losing strategy. Expanding a product in a saturated market is almost always a losing business strategy.

How many people go to the track or watch races turn it on to see Muscle Hill? Muscle Hill is not bringing in any new customers.

One thing is clear. The Greenshoe's love a sloppy track like he did

4 winners at The Red Mile (Sunday I think). They loved the off track.
