WEGs past
« on: August 13, 2024, 08:18:39 AM »
I remember many moons ago walking into race secretary BARRY HEWSON office after the races and we talked about the races of that night and he told me it was poor as the track had no movement and was boring and he said that he would speak to the track crew to make changes to the track and then he said to me RICK Zeron is trying to get into our circuit and this would never happen on his watch,,   Well later Rick got in and i asked him if he had a change of heart and man was he not a happy camper,,,,,,,,       Years later blue bonnets  closed its doors and most of the people who ruined racing like SYLVAIN FILLION, BENOIT AND MARIO,, RICHARD MOREAU,, RICK ZERON ,,COLLIN JOHNSON AND MANY OTHERS decided to kill racing in ONTARIO AND TODAY ITS NO LONGER A SPORT,,,,,  When i started in the game you could handicap,,,,  When drivers like DAVE SMITH,, ROBERT LACKEY,, DOUG BROWN,, WILLIAM MEGANS,, BRENT DAVIES,, FRED GILLIS were driving it would be a speed duel and these guys closed holes,,,,,, How can you call it a sport when you do not do everything you can to win a race,,, Today the great trainers of the past like ROGER MAYOTE and JERRY DUFFORD are jokes and guys like LARRY WALKER left the game looking like a fool,,,,, Back then i would walk into the track and knew how a race would go and it was not the chalk on the lead every race and there was speed horses that always left and i looked forward to the weekly FFA PACE AND TROT........   EARL LENNOX to me the best announcer ever as he would call a race without making it a circus like many announcers do today and a hard driven first half meant back runners were going to win and today i am not sure if 53 seconds is to fast with the  drugs keeping them going,,,,, Man i did not realize how good EARL LENNOX was as he did not go overboard with telling you were the chalk was the entire race,,,,, For me its sad that this site is all horsemen as 20 years ago horse going from 2-1 to 3/5 when leaving first is not a topic on this site and 20 years ago it would be the number one topic,,,,,,,,

i have mentioned on multiple threads about betting after the bell....whoever leaves odds drop and whoever lags off the gate, the odds go up.

This has been happening for at least 15 years and getting worse every year

Doug Brown would just make a quarter pole move and orchestrate the entire race. Especially when Ron Waples was on the decline.

Purses funded by gaming created all of this

no need to play hardball or close a hole when next there is another purse to be had-
no need to compete hard and jeopardize future purses when they are friendly out there

I remember every year watching the PRO BOWL and could not believe how the game looked when played soft and in racing almost every race is soft and it looks way worse than the PRO BOWL ever looked and the one thing i remember most about the PROBOWL WAS THE EMPTY stadiums,,,,,, I remember ROGER MAYOTE WINNING STAKE RACES and paying huge because no holes were given up and he always railed and in fair racing that can win,,,,,,,And yes JMAC IS IN ANOTHER LEAGUE,,,  fOR NOW THE DRUG AND SOFT RACING WITH MAJOR ODDS DROPS INTO THE RACE SHOW WILL GO ON AT CANADIAN racetracks and Randy will say another exciting night with a great card on the next day of racing,,,,,  exciting my ass,,,,
