Most of the big boys and girls are in to go Saturday night in Dayton's (4) $250,000 races for older horses.

its a travesty that Ruthless Hanover is being forced to race in the consolation when he probably is the best ffa that somehow cannot get out of his own way.

Blame Cancelliere.  If he raced an average amount of times as this group he's in easily.

so if they brought Confederate back and he didnt start racing until September he would be excluded from these events...looks like they are going by earnings this season.

It is a really nice card.. Keep your eyes on Rick Wink race 1 post 5..Ohio sire stakes 2 year old colt pace. He's 7 out of 7 this year and his race that I watched in person in Delaware was very impressive.. He won in 150.2 for fun.. only 2/5 off of Downbytheseaside's 2 year old record there. Out of all the good Burke 2 year olds this year he might be the best.

For a horse as good as Ruthless Hanover his lifetime earnings are nowhere near what they should be, and to make matters worse, they're using Andy Miller as his mostly regular driver with much better options available.

Ruthless is a curious case. At 4 he was good but it was clear he wasnt as good as the top ones like Allywag who was also 4 and some other ones from that season. Thats okay.

At 5 was the year of the Bulldog so wasnt going to gain traction there.

At 6 should have been is breakout year. Started off with promises and some really fast miles but then broke I think in the Battle of Lake Erie. He did win  a FFA race I think the Brower at the Big M going an incredible mile but when he tried to bottom them out in the Haughton scorching poor Abucketabett, he could only hold on for 3rd.  I think he raced poorly in the US Pacing championship and then was gone...no Breeders Crown try.

at 7 again started out with a huge mile at  his favorite track and then did it again in a minor invite there. Some bad post draws at the Big M especially the McKee/US Pace. Scratched from Canadian Derby after once again drawing post 10.

I think in general they burned him out too many times in wasted speed tries in 20K winners over. Then they go full tilt every big race at the Big M and sometimes you just cant force the horse to go through fractions of 53 to the half every week.  He definitely seemed to not have the heart when a horse looked him in the eye. This year he has been better at responding...the win in the 100K invitational at Pocono albeit with a rocky speed break at the top of the stretch. In general he hasnt been too good when he isnt at either Pocono, Chester, and Big M...i think 2x just awful at Mohawk

The horse is a unit...big, round and muscular, they must be feeding him good.

With no big standout this year,  its going to come down to who could do well in this race, the Allerage and BC.  I think Abucketbett has the slight edge right now but Its My Show and Little Rocket Man have shots. I dont expect to see Little Rocket Man at the Red Mile...will he even do BC?

If Little Rocket Man has never been nominated to the Breeder's Crown in the past, which I don't believe he has, I believe the one-time nomination fee may be as high as $62,500 or at least $50,000, so it may not be financially sound to do it.

If he wins at Dayton, they have to supplement him and give it a try. Their likely will be some different horses taking a shot there who love the Big M like Ken Hanover and Voukefalas to go along with Abucketabett and Ruthless. Will not be easy.

Little Rocket Man has already won $435,000 this year, but even if he wins at Dayton, is it worth supplementing him for $62,500 for a $600,000 purse, maybe, if you finish at least 3rd, you'll make money.

It would absolutely suck to pay that much to supplement in than draw 9 or 10 hole. He is a great horse and at Dayton he has Miller driving him.. a little better than John DeLong.. who is his normal driver at Hoosier..LOL. I would see how he fares in this race against a strong field and a bad post before making that call.

He could definitely sweep the 4 big ones, plus a few others throughout the night.   tmbz1
