Yves Filion has always been the one brother who bought well bred yearlings for 50 years. He’s had many top performers and saved his money . Regardless of the Funtime Bayama stuff he’s had many top horses . How many claimers has yves had in his career .He sells or moves them along . Sylvain has never ever been involved in races like his uncles Rheo , Herve or Henri . He’s never been flashy just steady and always brings you back a horse for next week . He’s not a drug trainer or a race fixer so forget about all your hypothetical reasons why he’s taking some time off .

everyone has their own opinion nd that is fair
i do not know the man and will not comment on him
however do not think the funtime bayama saga is over
i have no idea how much involvement the filions had in his training/suspension
but there is a connection there
weg/standardbred canada etc needs to show action, moreau obviously
they just elected sylvan filion to the hall of fame, do you think that within a year they wanted to suspend him if warranted
if they found cause/involvement they might have suggested he go away for a while
i am sure filion has wanted to go back to quebec, the funtime bayama circumstances might have moved that time up a little
who knows

Yves never claimed horse and never did well with dropping horses into claimers but he did give horses to moreau and i am sure he knew that magic was going to happen but a first time Yves was never a huge improvement,,,,,,,,

When Yves drove at Brandywine Raceway decades ago, his stable consisted of mostly cheap claimers, in the $6000 to $10,000 range, he owned himself along with his partner Jacques Paquet, eventually he was able to upgrade his stable.

So we can all agree. This move was planned well before the Fillion family defrauded Pollack, and framed Moreau.

you may have nailed it there m wins, guess time will tell...maybe ??
also to be clear funtime bayama was an oddity in terms of breeding
we all know that from time to time good /great horses come out of nowhere
funtime is a he's watching out of a very moderate(being kind) maternal pedigree
so not like the filions thought they were breeding a potential champion

Side note but the 2014 Pace Final is one of my favorite rewatches - when Timmy finally shakes free with He’s Watching - that horse looked like he was floating down the lane.

I don't understand why people don't get this.  Filion has been a professional catch driver since 1988.  That's 36 years.  It's a very, very dangerous way to make a living. He has made a very good living, he's still young and healthy.  Why would you not want to step away???  The guy can still show up next June and drive until Oct. and still put up $1- $2 million.  Why would you want to go through this grind if you didn't have to.

A very good driver in a tough driving colony. Always a go to guy for me when betting.  Personally i didn’t bet him on favorites usually, but if you’re the type that always bets favorites then maybe you didn’t care for him.

You think mohawk is a tough driving colony? When the other drivers are in town they can barely compete unless they are chalk
Guys like Hanners, Beckwith, Myers, Wrenn would rise to the top in a heartbeat if mohawk ever chose to recruit new blood
