Hot Mess Hanover 1 Million

All American sells about 7 million in Broodmares and Shares including both

A Walner Share sold for 285K

Burke Bought 5 percent of AlwaysBMiki for 140K which would put his value at 2.8M

The $285,000 for the Walner share puts his value at about $35 MILLION.  Jacobs really found a 4-leaf clover in that one.

I am always more interested in the mixed sale for many reasons. Mainly from a market perspective and because it's my business.
I saw some very good value yearlings from $15k to $75k. That market seems relatively fair and efficient right now. Too many buyers have gotten squeezed out of the middle marketplace. Pig in the python, LOL. In the mixed sale, like the yearling sale, the super high-end is strong. Always will be. Too many and too much rely on it. Kind of like "too big to fail," LOL. Not completely legit IMO, LOL, but super strong. Distorted. I think Steve Stewart made some good buys, very strategic, good value. He's very smart. So did Steve Jones, who is also very smart, runs a good business, etc. The top 10, well, I see two ends of the extreme---one, they got somebody on the horse (Amazing Catch), and two, a very strategic sale at the absolute best possible time (Hot Mess Hanover). The rest, somewhere in between, LOL.

Didn't one sell a year or 2 ago for 700k? While 35m is a lot, his value has dropped a lot from that sale.

So all 3 go back to Walner. 2 sons and Hot Mess Hanover back in foal to him. Jacobs must be getting on now. Mid 80's.

He still owns part of Walner right?

What's also at play here is who is buying with farm credit. That is nothing more than monopoly money, but it sure impacts the averages, revenue, balance sheets, P&L, etc.

That was a grossly inflated number, as it went to Patty Key who was buying in her husband's memory and was more thinking of that (in terms of building a great breeding operation) than rational finances.

Someone else must have been bidding also so at least 2 bidders thought the price was OK?

You think? For certain? I am never certain, not in an auction, LOL.

From HRU...

"Bidding opened stoutly at $300,000 and in a blink reached half a million. She soon soared to $900,000, flirting with and eventually hitting the $1 million mark. After a bid for $1,025,000 backed out, the auction lasting barely two minutes stopped at the bang of a hammer and the ticket for $1,000,000 descended through the center lane of the sales arena to the team of Winning Key Farm – Patty Key, widow to prolific harness racing owner Bob Key, and farm manager Eric Crocker."
