I spent almost every summer day attending Arlington Park in the early 2000''s.  Frank Calabrese was a true character.  He would be in the paddock all day, every day talking to whoever was around him.  He would claim a horse for $20,000, and drop him into a $5,000 claimer just to win the purse.  Most of his horses in that era went off at less than odds-on.  It really made playing Arlington as a bettor pretty much no fun.  He was a straight shooter though, he always took care of the grooms and hot walkers.  He used Wayne Catalano as a trainer on and off for most of those years, until they would have their argument about Wayne's training, and then Catalano would be gone for a short time, only to come back.    He made the paddock at Arlington an interesting place.

YEAH: FRANK was a real piece of work. I'ss got nothin against GAYS,since I had one on my side and one on ANDREA'S. Had some disputes with FRANK BOY about a decent friend of mine,NICK THE KID. And NICK THE KID was one of the GREATEST at ARLINGTON PARK. KIcked out of ARLINGTON PARK more times than hurricanes were started charted in USA since the beginnin of time. The KID took no SHIT from anyone,another LEGEND from ARLINGTON. Told FRANK at times where to go. Told PETRELLI to FUC OFF. Loved this one. SID, made a huge bet to win. The KID tells him he a IDIOT and puts $5.00 on another horse that he said would win. NICK'S horse WON. He shoves his winning ticket in SID'S face and say's I told you MORON. SID infurieted. Of course SID and FRANK had NICK tossed for the 20th time out of track. I'ss always defended the KID and I bashed FRANK on BTW. So one day: FRANK sends his gay lover,chauver,body guard up to confront me. I'm not payin attention at upstaires bar. A friend of mine says to me. Look who standin next to you. IT SID. I turns and say's to him. What you doin here. He goes: FRANK don't like what you postin about him. JOHN FRANK ARMY GOES: LAY OFF NICK THE KID. SID goes: It not me decision, but I will relay message.
MY condolances to FRANK'S family. In me estimation he was great for horseracin, and DREAMING OF ANNA was truly a great horse. Happy for him with that BREEDERS CUP CHAMPION.

Frank was a late in life homosexual.  He went to the other side when he was about 60.  He could be a prick, but he was a good man.  He took good care of the help in the barn.

Me DRILL who was nice , as compared to others,ask me if I would spend time to get this guy tru basic. I said: WHY ME. He went YOUR THE BEST. I spent after hours and weekends drillin FOGLEMAN. That his name. Member: Me drill prior always went. Every weekend the DRILL pics in BASIC ,a soldier that can go to town from SATURDAY 12 NOON to 6 PM SUNDAY. He always gave me the pass. HE finally went: WHY the FUC have you not used it. I told him: If my fellow PLATOON SOLDIERS can't go,NEITHER will I. So's he went. Can you help this pathetic individual. I did. Spent my time drillin him. When finals for physical tasks came to pass,FOGELMAN made it. My Platoon won the event.
ME Platoon SARGE was EXuperant. Worst thin was: When BASIC was over and one moved on to AIT and had some leave time,FOGLEMAN and his top bunk mate FALCO took off. They were LOVERS. They went AWOL. Don't know if they were ever tracked down.
IT reminds one of today politics. DRAFT DODGER and his who LOVE the FUC. I will QUEERLY do anythin for MEEESSSEEESS LOVER.

In the 1972 lottery draft, I was number 9.  I went down to the draft board and signed up ahead of time, as was the law of the land at that time.  But Richard M. Nixon ended the draft one week before I was to report to duty.  I would have been happy to serve the USA, but it didn't happen.    So, I stayed in college to further my education.

  i can speak on this matter as i knEw frank personally was a good guy  stern to his workers  especially his trainers ,,his life partner sid was a nice man good guy  very funny  ..
 i sat many nights  AT maywood park watched how the mooches tried to borrow money off of him ,,he wood  respectfully turn them down always   which was his  choice ,,tom harmer was his trainer in the 80's for harness horses   before  he went completly to tbreds ,,

when his horses were live he always tell me rocky they live pound them  ,,
  i cant say a bad thing about the man  ..

his sexual preference was his own choice ,,who cared i didnt .
