I'm fine with 14YO horses racing. Standardbreds are more than proven to be durable and I believe when trainers say "they love to race". So I got no problem with Amazon racing up to the last week of the year, but the owner/trainer have to be the dumbest of the dumb to open themselves up to this scrutiny, first with the interview where they basically say they don't give a fuck what happens to the horse and then tarnishing him by putting a cheap tag on his head..It amazes me how it doesn't even occur to them to say or do the right things even if they don't mean it. They don't deserve this horse.
Amazon deserves to be taken care of. The owner is an asshole for not following through with the plans that he made for this horse. Mr Holzman had no say in where this horse ended up in his last race. It is a shame that this jerk of an owner has no respect for the horse that is made him all that money. From what I understand the owner did not want to have to pay to care for him after this year. People like this is what gives this game such a bad rep. I still have my first racehorse and he will live out his life with me. He didn't make a ton of money but he tried every week. I hope someone does right by this horse.
I was on here about 6 months ago when there was a page that was started about this horse. I commented then that what a P.O.S asshole this owner is that they keep racing the horse , just retire the poor thing and to give him the rest and retirement he deserves. I had asked how much money do you want to make ? Trying to get every single penny out of him, ridiculous. I know it’s a business but this nice racehorse made this owner lots of money over the years. He’s in for $5000 so it’s obvious this owner could give 2shits less what happens to him, what a fucking scumbag Ameer najor is. I really hope someone does claim him just for a nice pet and gives him the retirement he deserves. I’ve known a lot of dickhead owners but ameer najor you are definitely on the top of the list.
That was me that started a page about him, and just my 2 cents.. I think as soon as he broke the record, he should have been retired. When I hear some trainers say "they love to race" I just have to chuckle. How do most..not all, but most trainers know that, did they talk to the horse.. Pure greed by the dipshit connections
I don't know. It's pretty apparent when a horse enjoys its job, no matter what that job might be. Just like it's apparent when they don't. If he's not unsound and is happy, then what's the harm? It's the lack of regard for what happens to him afterwards that concerns me.Will be interesting to see where he lands, if the rumor that a couple claims will be entered.
Shiaway St Pat won the first Hambletonian raced at the Meadowlands in 1981 with Ray Remmen driving. he was a gelding and raced until he was 14. At that time Hal Belote had him and he was racing in $3000 claimers or less in Delaware.
Not quite exactly the way it happened, but it has become a bit of an urban legend over time. Nevertheless, the point is that horses, regardless of their performance, if need be or want, should have the opportunity to retire peacefully and with safety and security.
To quote my original post, disgusting. I do expect if he's claimed it will be by someone with good intentions. I know the Kentucky Horse park has been alerted to the situation, maybe they take him in with their other champions.The fact that is actually a "situation" is deplorable. Supposedly there is supposed to be a shoe-pulling ceremony in the winner's circle after his final race...I seriously hope that's cancelled.
I stand corrected. He was racing in cheaper claimers in Delaware with Hal Belote before someone from The Meadowlands got wind of it and rescued him, then retired him to their Paddock Park. Other than winning the Hambo, Shiaway St Pat didn't do much else in his career. When you're a gelding, if you're sound, the only thing you can do is race unless you want a family pet.
No need, like I said, it was an urban myth that simply became the truth over time. Yes, after winning the first Hambo ever at the Meadowlands in 81, he never equalled or raced at that high of a level; and yes, the Meadowlands rescued him, retired him, and brought him home in 1988 when he was 10 years old.
