longtime horseman Rod Allums Sr passes away
« on: January 01, 2025, 01:53:09 PM »
Saw it on fb that after severe health issues, Rod Allums passed away. He was a fixture on the Chicago harness circuit for a couple of decades. He primarily was a trainer, but I think I saw him drive a few when Maywood and Balmoral had the dual sinulcasts 30 years ago.
His 1 son Rod Jr followed him into harness racing as a driver. He had another son they called CJ. He had a brother Sean and a,sister Tracy. His dad was a horseman in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. His folks Gene and Joann.
Sorry I don't have more details.
Pray for the Allums family at this time.
well, it's game over here at Maywood. thanks johnny Johnston for giving us fans the shaft!

Rod lived right off Steger rd, right near Lincoln Oaks golf course. We'd run into each other shopping as much as at the races. Rod raced his horses clean and most of the family was involved in the barn. I yelled at him once, but it was a HEADS UP! after a horse got loose at Southwick. We'd buy each other a round sometimes at Main Street after the races when we both had horses in.
Ros was 1 of the good guys in the sport a long, long time. Prayers to his family, especially his kids whom he loved. RIP

Met him a few times in Chicago. One of the PR guys introduced us. He seemed like a really nice guy, one of the "good guys" in our sport and industry. My condolences to his family and friends.
