Meadowlands has a calendar giveaway every year, and they say it's for the first 2500 people. That way they can give out free calendars each racing night until Hambo day.

Good one. Start on opening night, run out of calendars by the Hambo  ngc3

Vernon Downs gets a decent crowd in the dining clubhouse and the betting area. Reason: Not much got going on around there plus it has a great view of the area.

If there was a track near me in Michigan, I would go now and again. Back in the day Hazel Park would get thousands on a weekday...

northfield park use to be packed
you had to pay a dollar to park
1.50 to get in the doors
2.00 for a program

now there are 12 cars in the lot one of which works at the program stand.
free entry and parking

the casino is always full. im not sure why they dont show the races and offer horse betting where the slots are. they are 2 seperate facilities which you can spit on one if you are at the other.

When OTB was introduced in NY Bill Haughton was the only horseman to go to Albany and speak out against it. He told them if fans could bet off track that there would be a day when there would be no fans at the track.

tracks nowadays don't keep track of live attendance-that would require charging admission and paying somebody to let them in

another reason is many are adjacent to a casino . so the foot traffic via the track is accidental

Gural charges admission for Hambletonian Day-so that is a rare example

Anyone know what the supposed/alleged attendance was for the Hambo last year? Thanks.

Platkin and the New Jersey Racing Commission today announced results from the 99th Hambletonian Day held August 3, 2024 at the Meadowlands. The total handle was $7,427,370, with 16,465 visitors in attendance-although that doesn't account for the "spinners" who were collecting numerous calendars

I was at Chantilly today ... I'd say 1,500.  Longchamps Saturday... Vincennes Monday.

Yonkers has 60-70 people betting horses. 50 of those are the men wearing jiffy pop hats betting night flat tracks. There’s probably 10 or so people actually watching Yonkers.
