People still nervous about a market crash?
« on: April 09, 2025, 03:13:41 PM »
It's only one day, but people never say that when it's down big. LOL.

DJIA up 2600 -- about 7%
S&P 500 up 400 -- about 8%
NASDAQ up over 1500 -- just north of 10%
Russell 2000 up 130 -- about 7.5%

I commented on the other threads which should be in the political forum, but markets are fluid no matter who is President. In 2008 and 2009 I lost half of my savings. Since then it has quadrupled in value. We truly won't know for at least a year on how the President's policies will work, which some I agree with and some I don't. All I know is people should be hoping Trump is successful because if he is, then so are we. The tariffs got paused thus the upswing. Liberals will say that they should not be here to begin with. Conservatives will say that other countries are ready to negotiate. Nobody will be able to convince the other of their point of view. As I said in the other thread 99 percent are in the market for the long haul, so daily or weekly fluctuations don't mean much unless you are on the cusp of retirement

We are not worried. Countries are waiting in line to talk to President Trump for even trade agreements. Never underestimate a billionaire.

Thank you, President Trump

President Trump is playing this "close to the vest". Countries will be able to negociate a specfic trade agreement over the next 90 days. I know the Trump "haters" will always hate. I've actually cut most of those haters out of my life. Not worth the drama. Life's to short to deal with folks who think Biden was all great and Trump is all bad. Nonsense from people who are not serious thinkers. But if imposing tariffs is bad, why do 178 countries have tariffs on us. My suggestion is no tariffs at all. All free trade.

Only because our wishy-washy Orangehead is backing off this tariff shit for at least 90 days. Backing down on his "I'm a tough guy" approach. Maybe he'll be committed to some institution in the next three months and we can get back to a consistent rising market.

At the end of the day, I think the substantial tariffs that stick will be the ones that are designed to preventing illegal dumping (like steel) and those to protect victimized US commerce and industry.

Worried enough to shit your pants and drop the tariffs 12 hours after he said how he wasn’t going to.

Remember 3 days ago how Trump retweeted he was going to make the Treasury interest rates go down and refinance the debt.  Turns out things were so bad people were selling off their T bill bonds and interest rates went up as there were no buyers.  Yes the interest on the debt got higher and he shit the bed. Europe and China waited so much in line they increased their tariffs.  Please Trump is a financial grifter moron and so are his advisors. He hired so many incompetent's.

For long-term investors-----which most people who are in the market should be, and ironically most people are not-----the bigger risk to being in the market is not being in the market; unforntualtely, because most people who get in and out are doing nothing more than playing the market timing game.

This decline is not a crash, it's not a correction, or anything market related. Yes, some people think it's economic related, vis a vis recessionary fears, but that has been debated for countless years. I don't know why, but people tend to forget the pricing model theory of looking at current stock yields relative/compared to long-term US Treasury yields. Right now that delta is about half of 1%. So, if current stock yields are projected to grow by more than a half percent, then stocks will outperform fixed income in the long term. And what does that have to do with the sell-off we've seen. Nothing. LOL.

This is why, over the long term, the broad based capital/equity markets-----not the Dow Jones-----goes up! Look at the rolling ten year, 15 year, and 20 year periods. Sure, it's easy to get scared at this type of volatility-----specifically declines and sell-offs-----but, long-term, if you don't know that those broad based markets do, then you shouldn't be in the market at all.

I am retired.  Have been in the market for a long time but don’t listen to the hot shots.   Have never owned more than 4 stocks.  Diversity guarantees a loser.
I have plenty to last till I pass on so play the mkt a little in those 4 stocks. I have buys in place and sells in place.  My children’s inheritance has done very , very well in the past few weeks.

PLEASE stop using the word “HATERS!  We have enough division and issues in the world today!

Pretty sad when you cut people out of your life over political differences that you don’t have to discuss!!  Many other things happening in the world today. Life is short!!

On the tariffs—you can’t keep changing your mind like people change underwear!  Take a logical approach and you don’t have turmoil in the financial world and the entire world.

You don't get it. You just set the tariff high enough to make the produced here cheaper. That is basic arithmetic.
