Kentucky harness purses are crazy
« on: September 10, 2022, 08:24:25 AM »
More than one horseman has said that Kentucky’s just got crazy money there right now, so it’s no surprise that several Jersey-based trainers would take a shot, much in the way many professional golfers have joined the extremely lucrative LIV Golf Tour.

“I love being in Kentucky, but for many years it’s been a losing proposition for what you can bill out and what it costs you to be there,” said Noel Daley. "The purses are really small most of the year, I don't know how the horsepeople here can afford it. But when the stakes races are here the Kentucky people can't compete against the Jersey-based barns, their horses just aren't that good.  It's really easy money for us!"

Another program that was sold as a entity to help the local horsemen and all, stay in KY and compete for purses that can support and reinvest into a home product.

It's only a stakes program where the money mostly went. What it has down with the duel eligibility has really taken the completion and better horses out of the PA sire stake system ad PA stake pursed are decreasing. Decreasing fast as PA casinos see declines in gaming meaning less funding to the horse racing program. So boom for KY not so much PA and Hanover. No more than two trotting divisions and not sure they had full fields. The horses weren't standouts and very weak to the ones that decided on KY.

KY has a couple stallions mostly on the trotting side so until that builds it will just be a place to chase stake money no more no less. Nobody is staying for overnights three days a week.
