I understand why Jeff Gural wants a casino, to make money, and there's nothing wrong with wanting one. My real problem is with people who feel he deserves one because he opened his wallet to save Meadowlands, like it's a sense of entitlement. The only thing I don't like about him is when he cries poor and how he's losing money on racing, and always feel the need to remind people how much money other neighboring tracks get from their casinos. He's no dummy and must have known he was probably going to lose money on racing. Not just with him, but it never sits well with me when a millionaire cries poor because he's still alot better off than most people. Just for the record, I rarely bet Meadowlands except when they have their big cards.

I hear what you're saying but if Jeff didn't take over and build the new grandstand racing would be over in New Jersey.  Jeff didn't become a multimillionaire because he's a dummy I feel he's doing the best he can and I appreciate the man.

Getting back to building a new grandstand, was it really necessary since live attendance is very little? Did he build it thinking he'd get a casino, otherwise would he still have done it, only he can answer that. Had he not come to the rescue, I firmly believe someone else would have to a lesser degree, but without investing money in a new grandstand. I agree he's doing the best he can and probably knows the chances of having a casino built are pretty slim, especially in his lifetime. In my opinion, the casino owners in Atlantic City will continue to do everything they can to prevent a casino from being built because they already have enough competition amongst themselves.

the old grandstand was full of asbestos had to be demolished. I agree he did build it thinking he was getting a casino but I didn’t see anybody else that stepped up to the plate like Jeff did.

Jeff Gural not only saved the MEADOWLANDS, he also  breathed some life back into the sport….at least for a few more years. You really expect him to continue to be the provider of welfare without the possibility of getting a casino? If he didn’t have that “hope” he never would have spent $100mil of his own money. How can anybody have a problem with that. Yes, if you’re a horseman , you should be kissing his ass. Without him, you’re nothing. DUH!

I couldn’t agree more! If it wasn’t for Jeff, there would be no racing in New Jersey! BTW he’s also a nice man.

Too that fucking MUTT with a pocket full of cash stop being so envious and jealous!

Does he think by mentioning about closing if things don't change, it's somehow going to put pressure on them to build a casino or else, if so, then he's sadly mistaken.

He’s only stating the obvious. He will only lose money for so long. Take it as a wake up call. It’s called reality! What part of there would be no Meadowlands if not for him to do you struggle to understand? Do you have any clue the damage to the industry if there were no Meadowlands? Obviously not. Freehold never stated the obvious for a long time. When they finally announced the closing, people were in shock. How did not see that coming? At least Gural has the balls not only to put up his money, but tell you exactly where he stands. If it does close, there will be no surprises. Dude, bringing back harness racing as a standalone sport is like trying to revive Blockbuster Video. don’t you get it? Nobody gives a shit about harness racing anymore, the world has moved on to much more exciting types of betting.

I agree with you, nobody wants to keep funding a bad investment. It would definitely hurt the industry if they closed, so I am not clueless as you think. I'm not sure there's an answer without a casino which in my eyes is a longshot. I was not shocked with the closing of Freehold. The quality of racing and purses have been terrible for years and there's no way they were making money. I don't think you can compare Freehold to Meadowlands because even in its heyday, which was a long time ago, it was nowhere close to being on the same level with Meadowlands. I started going to the track at Brandywine Raceway in the late 1960's. I also went to Liberty Bell and Garden State alot. All three have been closed for decades which is unfortunate because all of them had good racing.

I raced at Brandywine, Liberty Bell and Garden State until the end. Brandywine in the 70”s was the  best! I sold my stable and went into the corporate world in 87. Best move I ever made. Never looked back but have a tiny interest in a horse racing at Yonkers that races tonight. When AC casinos opened, harness racing died

If Brandywine Raceway could have stayed open for a few more years, most likely they would have had a casino, and with their location would have made a fortune, and their purses would have been the highest at any harness track.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Gural wanting a casino. He's supposed to. Whoever took over the Meadowlands---and nobody else had the credibility or capability to do so---would want a casino. There were no nonprofits lined up to do it, LOL. Gural, just like anyone else who was interested in taking over the Meadowlands, is a capitalist. He's for-profit. That's a good thing. I am sure every anti-Gural person on the planet would have been a lot happier and better off had a casino company taken over.

BTW, if you are pro-Gural, good for you. He doesn't have a fan club, so bet your money and shut the f%ck up. Now, if you don't like a movie, you have three choices. Stay, shut the f%ck up and watch the movie. Get up and leave, and shut the f%ck up. Get up and leave, and bitch, whine, moan, and complain about it for the rest of your life. Nobody listens to the last group. People from all three groups, go to the next movie, or don't go ever again. I couldn't care less.
